Arched Windows

I’m pretty sure it must be law that all houses built since 1990 have to have at least one arched window. The larger ones you see most commonly in foyers where the window has straight sides and an arched top is known as a Palladian window after the architect Palladio. It was he who re-discovered the classics of Renaissance building and copied the arched window so popular today.

Sometimes homeowners choose to leave these windows unadorned but there may be instances which require them to be treated. One of my clients had this very same window in the front of their house at the second story level. The only problem was that when you stood at the street, you had a straight line of vision into the master bathroom where the children took their evening baths; for this arched window they chose a custom configured shutter.

Others have a specific need such as lighting or privacy control that they must address. Moreover, because these windows are usually quite high up, motorization can be included for just about any treatment.

For my client it was a privacy issue. For others, the window may let in an objectionable amount of light affecting heating/cooling or enhancing UV fading problems.

The good news is that these windows can be dressed beautifully. Some folks simply wish to adorn them, making them a focal point by framing them with fabric.
